In a letter to the EDP newspaper Councillor Judith Lubbock highlighted the Lib Dem motion on reducing plastic bag usage.

Dear Editor,

In Anthony Denny's letter of 3/11 he says the Green Party should aim higher than the banning of Foie Grass, and consider the banning of the plastic bag.

I am pleased to say that at the same council meeting the Liberal Democrats tabled a motion on just that issue. We called on all consumers in Norwich to reduce their usage of non-degradable plastic bags.

We understand that as a council we do not have the power to ban their use however voluntary reduction should work just as well as in practice there would be no one enforcing such a ban.

We are dependent on the press to help publicise this voluntary action but I cant think they would not want to be part of an important environmental change such as this.

So come on EDP spread the word and if small communities can do it why cant Norwich show their environmental credentials?

Yours sincerely
