Cllr Carl Mayhew (Lib Dem, Mile Cross) welcomes greener homes, to be built in the area he represents

Local residents expressed their joy over plans for 13 new eco-homes granted planning permission on Philadelphia Lane, near Waterloo Park in the north of the City.

Residents had been campaigning with local Lib Dem Councillor Carl Mayhew for the site of the Crawshay Arms to be redeveloped but the council blocked plans earlier this year.

"I'm delighted that this development has finally been given the go ahead. Local residents have long been campaigning for this exciting development and have been working with developers throughout" said Cllr Mayhew.

I was shocked it was rejected earlier this year despite overwhelming local support and its green credentials. This is a fantastic development and will really enhance the area. In addition the developers will be contributing over £13,000 to play facilities in the area. "

The site, which is being built by local company Urban Regeneration, will feature solar panels and rain water harvesting. It has been given an eco homes rating of excellent. Work is due to start in early August.
