Lib Dems announce local election candidates12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 1st Apr 2008
The Norwich Liberal Democrats have announced the 13 candidates who will contest the local elections on 1st May. With a number of new candidates and new leaders locally and nationally, the party is looking forward with confidence to the campaign. New Norwich Liberal Democrat Group Leader Cllr Brian Watkins said "We have an excellent team standing in May, with a blend of youth and experience. Every vote will count, as the Liberal Democrats aim for lower council taxes and services focused on community needs across the city." The party will campaign on many different issues across the city, including saving local post offices, increasing the number of uniformed Police and Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) and abolishing council tax. A third of all City Council seats are up for election this year including seven out of the eleven seats held by the Lib Dems. There will be a Liberal Democrat candidate standing in each of the thirteen wards.
